Since the hybrids that resulted from reciprocal crossing possessed an entirely similar conformation, and also no notable deviation became visible in their further development, the mutual results could be brought under one calculation for each experiment.

entirely similar = völli[g gleiche] The printed text only has völlige. Mendel inserted gleiche by hand in the offprint, deleting the final e of völlige, and this wording is also found in his manuscript. The printer obviously misread the manuscript.

entirely similar conformation = völli[g gleiche] Gestalt Bateson has “are fully formed”, Sherwood “were of identical appearance”. The term Gestalt implies more than similarity in external appearance, however (see p. 10, s. 8).

reciprocal crossing = wechselseitiger Kreuzung Two sets of crosses in which seed and pollen plant are systematically exchanged; see Mendel’s definition on p. 9, s. 5.

further development = Weiterentwicklung See p. 3, s. 3. Since Mendel is working with seed characters this may refer both to the ontogentic development of the hybrid individuals and to the development of their descendants.

could be brought under one calculation = unter eine Rechnung gebracht werden Bateson translates “reckoned together, Sherwood “totaled”. Mendel apparently claims that the results from reciprocal crosses can be treated as results from a single hybridisation experiment.
