Electrifying Experimentation: science in nineteenth-century Britain
University of Sheffield, UK, 25 February 2006
This one-day meeting was organised by the departments of English Literature and Philosophy at the University of Sheffield, in association with and supported by the British Society for the History of Science, the British Society for the Philosophy of Science and the Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies.
Papers addressed a variety of research broadly relating to science in nineteenth-century Britain, with a particular focus on relations between literature and science. The meeting commenced with a plenary session from members of the SciPer Project on 'Science, Literature and the Victorian Periodical,' and concluded with a head-to-head discussion featuring Drs Jon Hodge and Greg Radick on the theme "Was there a Darwinian Revolution? Does it Matter?"
