Council for British Research in the Levant Awards 2008-09

The Council for British Research in the Levant (CBRL) aims to promote, sponsor and carry out high-quality research in the humanities and social sciences throughout the countries of the Levant: Cyprus, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria.

Details of CBRL award schemes for 2008-09 are now available at http://www.cbrl.org.uk/funding_opportunities.shtm <http://email.britac.ac.uk/_act/link.php?mId=A829942376620575243629&tId=2263 167>

Applications are invited for the following schemes:

Research Awards CBRL Research Awards of up to £10,000 are offered for postdoctoral research to be undertaken in the countries of the Levant. Awards are offered for research that comes under CBRL’s Key Research Themes. Closing date: 1 December 2007 http://www.cbrl.org.uk/funding_opportunities_more.shtm#1 <http://email.britac.ac.uk/_act/link.php?mId=A829942376620575243629&tId=2263 168>

Pilot Studies and Pump-Priming Awards CBRL Pilot Studies and Pump-Priming Awards are available for support for postdoctoral researchers undertaking initial exploratory work or a feasibility study with a view to preparing a later application for major funding from a Research Council or the British Academy in due course. Awards may be used to cover travel, round tables, seminars, or initial exploratory fieldwork. In addition, CBRL will assist such feasibility studies through the provision of its facilities and in establishing local contacts. To be eligible under this scheme, a project must involve an element of travel to (or from) the Levant. Closing date: 1 December 2007 http://www.cbrl.org.uk/funding_opportunities_more.shtm#1 <http://email.britac.ac.uk/_act/link.php?mId=A829942376620575243629&tId=2263 169>

Travel Grants Small grants (up to £800) are available to fund the basic costs of individual travel to the Levant and are generally (but not exclusively) intended to fund junior researchers. The aims of the Travel Grant programme are to give students the opportunity to travel in the region, to encourage the development of new research, and to support minor research projects (particularly for postgraduate degrees) which must be done in the region. Such grants are not awarded to assist individuals to join a project, where it could be seen as a hidden subsidy to the project in question. Closing date: 15 January 2008 http://www.cbrl.org.uk/funding_opportunities_more.shtm#1 <http://email.britac.ac.uk/_act/link.php?mId=A829942376620575243629&tId=2263 170>

Visiting Research Fellowships CBRL Visiting Research Fellowships are offered for doctoral and postdoctoral research in the humanities and social sciences to be undertaken in the countries of the Levant. Fellowships are available to enable individuals to spend a period of between three and nine months in the Levant, which is to include a minimum of one month residence at the British Institute in Amman or the Kenyon Institute in Jerusalem. Junior Fellowships are available for doctoral students and Senior Fellowships are available for postdoctoral researchers. Closing date: 15 January 2008 http://www.cbrl.org.uk/funding_opportunities_more.shtm#1 <http://email.britac.ac.uk/_act/link.php?mId=A829942376620575243629&tId=2263 171>
