Criminalising Medicine – Doctors In The Dock

Criminalising Medicine – Doctors In The Dock

The criminal justice system is becoming increasingly more engaged in the regulation of health care practice and the development of health care law. The rising number of prosecutions for medical manslaughter and assault , for example, generates concern within the profession. There is scant literature addressing either the criminal law’s relationship to health care, or the ethical boundaries of the criminal justice system in this context, or the impact of the criminal justice system on the medical profession and health care in the UK. The aim of this two-day international conference is to promote informed debate on these issues drawing on the experiences of other carefully selected jurisdictions. Adequate time will be provided for academic discussion, with the participation of a well-informed audience of health care and criminal lawyers, criminologists, clinicians, bioethicists, and jurists.
