28 October, Wylfa, Holyhead, Anglesey

This year marks the end of an era — production of electricity by Magnox nuclear reactors will cease in the UK when Wylfa Reactor 1, the last of the UK’s Magnox reactors, is shut down in December 2015.
A half-day seminar is to be held on 28 October 2015, to mark the closure of  the reactor. It will be held at the Wylfa site on the Anglesey coast, and will commence at 12:30. It will consist of presentations from a range of speakers covering the history and evolution of the design of Magnox reactors, their contributions to UK electricity generation, and the future of the Wylfa site.
This event is organised by the History of Physics Group and the Nuclear Industry Group of the Institute of Physics. Registration is free but essential. For programme and registration details go to http://www.iop.org/activity/groups/subject/hp/index.html.
