First Cambridge Wellcome Lecture in the History of Medicine

University of Cambridge DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE

The Department is delighted to announce the First Cambridge Wellcome Lecture in the History of Medicine.

Helen King (University of Reading)

will speak on

‘Women’s bodies in sixteenth-century medicine: using the classical tradition’.

The lecture will start at 4.30 p.m. in Seminar Room 2. Tea will be available from 4.15 in Seminar Room 1, and a drinks reception will be held there at 6.00.

At a workshop the same day at 11.30 a.m. in Seminar Room 1 Professor King will introduce a discussion of a paper that will be made available about two weeks in advance. The title is ‘William Smellie vs John Burton: using the history of medicine in eighteenth-century obstetrics’.
