John Harley Warner – An open discussion for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers 4.30 – 6.00 pm

MPhil, PhD and postdoctoral researchers are invited to an opening meeting with Professor John Harley Warner. Professor Warner will be visiting CRASSH from Yale University, where he is the Avalon Professor and Chair of History of Medicine, and Professor of History, American Studies, and History of Science and Medicine. His many books and articles have won him international acclaim as one of the foremost historians of nineteenth and twentieth century American science and medicine. This is an opportunity to talk with one of the leaders in the field about what this subject means to him.

Professor Warner will open the discussion with a brief talk about his work. Participants are encouraged to read his essay, ‘Grand Narrative and Its Discontents: Medical History and the Social Transformation of American Medicine’, Journal of Health Policy, Politics and Law, 29 (2004): 757-780. Copies will be available from CRASSH prior to the event.
