Candidate invited to apply for AHRC Block Grant & ESRC CASE doctoral funding with Royal Holloway, University of London and the Alpine Club for M.A./Ph.D. research on mid-twentieth century female mountaineering.

The Department of Geography, Royal Holloway, University of London and the Alpine Club are looking for an outstanding candidate to apply with them for its AHRC block grant (+3) and/or to the ESRC South East Doctoral Training Centre for a CASE award to fund a part or full-time 1+3 (Masters for those without one + PhD) or +3 (for those already with appropriate Masters).

The Alpine Club—the world’s first mountaineering club—houses an archival collection documenting over 150 years of alpinism. The student will have access to the Alpine Club’s extensive archival holdings—textual, photographic, and film—relating to a series of “women-only” high-altitude expeditions in the mid-twentieth century.
