The program solicitation NSF 03-043 (NSE) has been published (see http://www.nsf.gov/pubsys/ods/getpub.cfm?nsf04043). The first deadline is for Nanoscale Science and Engineering Centers (preliminary proposals) on November 10, 2004, followed by Nanoscale Interdisciplinary Research Teams on November 12, 2004, and Nanoscale Exploratory Research on November 18, 2004. Please feel free to disseminate the url address for this solicitation.
One major element in this year’s solicitation is in the thematic area: Societal and Educational Implications of Scientific and Technological Advances on the Nanoscale. The solicitation announces the competition for a center in this area. The title of the center will be “NSEC: Center for Nanotechnology in Society (CNS).” It is expected that this Center will involve a collaborative effort or partnership among a number of institutions, in order to meet the goals articulated in the solicitation.
NSF is thinking about having an informational meeting that would allow potential applicants and interested individuals to meet to discuss the call for proposals, on September 20, 2004. If these plans come to fruition, I will send out another message with further details.
Cordially, Rachelle Hollander
