The History of Science and Technology Programme at the University of King’s College invites applications for a one-year, full-time sessional appointment in History and Philosophy of the Life Sciences, commencing 1 August 2011. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will teach in an interdisciplinary, combined honours programme offered jointly by the University of King’s College and Dalhousie University. Our programme is devoted to the history, philosophy, sociology and cultural place of Western science and technology. The successful candidate will teach the following classes, some of which are cross-listed with the University’s Contemporary Studies Programme:

Fall Term:

  • Totalitarianism and Science
  • Bio-Politics: Human Nature in Contemporary Thought
  • Science and Culture

Winter Term

  • The Biosphere: Global perspectives in science and philosophy
  • Science and Nature in the Modern Period (Biology emphasis)
  • Science and Culture
