Panel members sought for 2004 American Phytopathological Society Annual Meeting: panel on history of plant pathology, agricultural bacteriology, soil science

Dear Colleagues,

I am in the process of putting together a proposal for a historical session to be included in the 2004 American Phytopathological Society Annual Meeting to be held in Anaheim, California. I am seeking scholars who would be willing to present papers on the histories of plant pathology, agricultural bacteriology, soil science, or related disciplines. Sociocultural histories of plant epidemics (the Irish Potato Famine, for example) or of colonial agriculture are also of interest.

This is an excellent opportunity to foster cross-communication between active scientists and historians, and to explore the issues and questions involved in writing the history of science from these different perspectives. I’ve received warm enthusiasm from the preliminary review committee and, should the session be accepted, it will be tagged a “Hot Topic” in the conference program.

If interested, please contact me off-list at [email protected] for further details.
