This postdoctoral fellowship is funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) and is part of the 3 years research project LOGISCIENCE conducted by Pierre Wagner at the IHPST. The fellowship is for 12 months with a net salary of 2060 euros per month, starting 1 October 2008. The fellow is expected to engage in research activities at the IHPST in the areas covered by the project LOGISCIENCE (see below for a description of the project). The fellows domain of research will preferably fit within the 4th theme mentioned below (logical approaches to philosophy of science in a historical perspective: logical empiricism, its origins and heritage). Speaking French is not a necessary condition for applying. Questions about the fellowship, the project LOGISCIENCE and the IHPST may be sent to Pierre Wagner at [email protected]
Applications (CV, list of publications, 3 samples of recent work, 2 letters of reference, description of research activities and project), either in English or in French, should be sent to Pierre Wagner IHPST 13 rue du four 75006 Paris France or by email at [email protected]

A brief description of the project LOGISCIENCE (2008-2010)
A more detailed description of the project (in French) may be found here: http://www-ihpst.univ-paris1.fr/_sources/logiscience.pdf
The goal of this project in the philosophy of science is to bring a new answer to a traditional question: what is logic and what is its relationship to the other sciences? The recent developments of logic modify its relation to the rest of science and justify a research on this fundamental issue. The research is conducted in two directions: i- conceptually: how should logic be defined today? ii- historically: how did the logical empiricists devised the idea of a logic of science? What are its origins and heritage?
Research activities (workshops, seminars, conferences by invited speakers) are divided into 4 main themes: 1- Definition of logic and the formal sciences. 2- Applied logic and the methodology of science. 3- The issue of deflationism. 4- Logical approaches to philosophy of science in a historical perspective: logical empiricism, its origins and heritage (with a special focus on Carnaps work).
