Postdoctoral Fellowship in History of Science at Montana State University

The Department of History and Philosophy at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana announces a two-year postdoctoral Fellowship in the history of science, funded by the National Science Foundation Grant, “John Tyndall and Nineteenth-Century Science.” In addition to pursuing research in the history of science, the Fellow will be expected to help administer the John Tyndall Correspondence Project (JTCP). Duties will include helping to oversee the transcription of Tyndall’s letters coming to MSU from thirteen universities in four countries, overseeing graduate student transcribers at MSU, and helping to plan a conference on Tyndall and nineteenth-century science to be held in the Fall of 2012. The Fellow will also be expected to teach one course each semester in his or her specialty, and to participate in the MA and PhD programs in the Department of History and Philosophy.

A PhD in the history, philosophy, or social studies of science, or STS related field, is required by August 1, 2010. Preference will be given to candidates whose research and teaching interests focus on nineteenth-century British science. The Fellowship includes a stipend of $40,000 plus benefits and $1,000 travel allowance.
