This interdisciplinary conference brings together an international group of scholars interested in the history of the car in North America from the perspective of technology, government, business, landscape, and popular culture. Sponsored by the Department of History and the Centre for the Study of the United States at the University of Toronto and the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada, this three-day conference will consider the political, social, and cultural history of the automobile on a continental scale.

Conference events include a tour of a working automobile factory, a keynote address by Professor Chester Liebs of the University of New Mexico, and sessions on cars and consumer culture, ideas of risk, urban space, auto factories, and other subjects.
