Department Profile The Warburg Institute is dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of the history of the classical tradition, that is the influence of the Ancient world on every aspect of European culture, and in particular on art, thought, literature, religion and science. In addition to the resources of the Library (300,000 volumes) and Photographic Collection (300,000), and its postgraduate teaching and supervision of research, the Institute has an active programme of research seminars, colloquia and publication. The Institute is a member of the School of Advanced Study of the University of London. The institute is within walking distance of the British Library, the Wellcome Library for the History of Medicine and the other libraries of the University, including the Courtauld Institute of Art.
