CALL FOR PAPERS
Workshop for the History of Environment, Agriculture, Technology & Science
WHEN: October 12-14 2007
WHERE: University of Georgia, Athens, GA, USA
Following the success of previous meetings in Cambridge, Massachusetts (MIT); Charlottesville, Virginia (University of Virginia); and London, Ontario (University of Western Ontario), WHEATS 2007 will be held over the weekend of October 12-14 at the University of Georgia in Athens. WHEATS is a workshop designed for graduate students (and, space permitting, very recent Ph.D.s) whose research investigates the intersections between environmental history, agricultural history, the history of technology, and the history of science (in any combination). Accepted papers will be circulated in advance to all participants. At the meeting, authors make brief presentations and then receive feedback from fellow participants and senior scholars through informal discussion. The format is particularly suitable for the presentation of work in progress such as thesis and dissertation chapters and article manuscripts. Due to logistical constraints, papers must be in English. Housing will be provided and some funding will be available to defray travel costs for those whose papers are accepted.
Those interested in participating should submit a one-page abstract and short curriculum vitae by March 15, 2007 to Chris Manganiello at [email protected] (electronic submission is preferred), or by mail to Paul Sutter, Department of History, LeConte Hall, University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30602-1602. Please clearly indicate where you are in your graduate studies. All submissions will be acknowledged by e-mail. Accepted papers will be due September 1, 2007 for circulation to other participants. For further information, contact Paul Sutter ([email protected]) or Shane Hamilton ([email protected]), or visit the WHEATS 2007 website: http://www.uga.edu/wheats2007/.
