The British Society for the History of Science Annual Conference will take place from
Tuesday, 8 July to Thursday, 10 July 2025, at the University of Cambridge.
The Conferences Committee of the British Society for the History of Science now invites proposals for individual papers and for sessions from historians of science, technology and medicine, and from their colleagues in the wider scholarly community, on any theme, topic or period for its Annual Meeting in Summer 2025.
Proposals are welcomed from researchers of all nationalities at all stages of their careers. The Committee is particularly anxious to encourage diversity in its sessions. You need not be a member in order to submit a paper or session for consideration, but anyone participating in the meeting will need to be a member of the Society. There are substantial discounts on membership available for students and early career scholars, whose attendance at the meeting will be generously subsidized by the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at Cambridge.
Offers of papers and sessions should be submitted via this form. Proposals for individual papers should include a title and an abstract of no more than 250 words; be comprehensible to a non-specialist audience; and include no footnotes. Sessions of ninety minutes should normally consist of three papers, with an overall session title and abstract as well as titles and abstracts for each paper.
Proposals for alternative types of sessions, such as panels and roundtables, are strongly encouraged. Please discuss your ideas for such alternative sessions with Committee well in advance of the submission deadline via the email address above.
This is an in-person meeting; facilities for hybrid or online are not available. Registration will be for the entire meeting only, not on a day-by-day basis. The meeting is currently scheduled to begin at 1.30pm on Tuesday 8 July, concluding at 3.30pm on Thursday 10 July 2025. It is expected there will be visits to libraries, museums and other relevant sites, potentially on the following day.
All enquiries about the programme arrangements should be addressed to programmes@bshs.org.uk.
The deadline for proposals is extended to Friday 17 January 2025.
