Directorship of the Museum of the History of Science
in association with Linacre College

The University of Oxford intends to make an appointment to the Directorship of the Museum of the History of Science at the earliest opportunity, in succession to Professor J.A. Bennett who retired on 30 September 2012. The primary role of the Director is to lead the development of the museum’s research, stewardship, curation, educational, access, and fundraising profiles. A major challenge for the Director will be to sustain the collections at the centre of the University’s teaching and research at the same time as maintaining the museum’s commitment to public education. The successful candidate will have an international research reputation in any aspect of the history of science relevant to the museum’s role and collections. Experience of fundraising, collections management, and education/outreach activities would be desirable.

Please see the further particulars at for more details about the post and for full instructions before making an application. Applications, including a covering letter and full CV, and naming three referees should be received no later than Monday 11 March 2013, by Dr Gwen Booth, Personnel Officer, Senior Appointments (email: [email protected]). If you have a query about how to apply, please contact Mrs Elaine Eastgate (email: [email protected]; tel: 01865 280189).

Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.
