The Doctoral Program “Naturwissenschaften im historischen Kontext/The Sciences in Historical Context” announces the award of up to 12 doctoral student positions beginning 1 October 2006.

For the first time the University of Vienna offers a Ph.D. program in this field, to be completed in six semesters. Participation in the annual “Vienna International Summer University” in the second half of July is also part of the program. Positions are funded for three years. Recipients are employed half time (20 hours/week) at the University of Vienna; this includes up to 10 hours/week in teaching and research tasks agreed individually. The total annual salary of 14,000 Euros is paid out in 14 instalments. Health and social insurance will be covered by the University. Tuition exemption, additional support for students with children, and travel funding for research or conferences are included.

Employment requirements: Completed advanced degree (Magister/Diplom/Master) in History, History or History and Philosophy of Science, a natural science or Mathematics. Applicants with one or more relevant BA/BSc degrees will be considered in exceptional cases.
