The Lillie M. Newton Hornsby Award is a $300 cash prize offered by the Association of Black Women Historians for the best historical article written by a black female undergraduate junior or rising senior. The article can be written in a previous year. It cannot be awarded to those who have graduated before fall 2007. Deadline for submission: August 1, 2007.

Requirements for Applicants: Black women undergraduate student majoring in history or related field; short writing sample using primary historical sources, no more than 15-pages; resume; one letter of recommendation from one of the applicant’s professors; copy of transcript.

Applicants are responsible for compiling three copies of the above documents and submitting them in one complete packet. Applications must be postmarked by August 1, 2007.
