Lecturer in History of Medicine
Fixed term for 9 months
£22,191 – £25,451 per annum
Applications are invited for this fixed term post tenable from 1 October 2003 for 9 months, from candidates with expertise in history of medicine and an ability to teach also medical ethics. The post arises from a Wellcome Trust Enhancement Award in the History of Medicine to Professor Andreas-Holger Maehle. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a commitment to high-quality teaching, and an ability to contribute to a lively research culture in a department which has recently achieved scores of 5 in the RAE and 24 in the QAA Teaching Review.
The Post The successful applicant will teach a first-year module in history of medicine, and a second-year module in history of medical ethics, and supervise undergraduate dissertations in history of medicine and medical ethics. He or she will be responsible to the Board of Studies in Philosophy. Precise teaching commitments and administrative responsibilities will be determined by the Chair of the Board of Studies in Philosophy. The appointee will be expected to contribute to the taught postgraduate programmes. An ability to make a contribution to the research culture of the Department and the Centre will be essential.
