Spring 2018

Spring 2018

BSHS President
Dr Patrica Fara

Dear BSHS members,

I’m writing to you with news of a very special event. This year’s winner of the Dingle Prize is Andrea Wulf, an extremely prestigious author who has written a wonderful book about Alexander von Humboldt, The Invention of Nature. This summer she has declined all invitations to speak in London except for one: and that is for the BSHS. Naturally, the BSHS Council is enormously gratified by this unique acceptance, and we have been working hard to make it a successful occasion.

Thanks to Tim Boon, BSHS Vice President, she will be lecturing at the Science Museum on Wednesday 30th May from 7.30 to 8.30 at one of their Lates evenings. You can book here.

You will see that it is a ticketed talk, but we have negotiated a generous discount for BSHS members, so it will only cost £3 (but you and any guests must be over 18). You can claim your discount by entering the code ‘BSHSdiscount’ , in the PROMO CODE box.

The BSHS will be presenting this event in collaboration with the Royal Society and the Science Museum, so please do come if you can, as this will be an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the significance of the BSHS as a thriving international organisation.

There will be a very short EGM immediately before the lecture, and I encourage you to come to that as well, because we need to be quorate for electing next year’s Council.

With very best wishes
Patricia Fara (President)
