Additional Information: UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME. The Program of 
Liberal Studies (PLS) seeks to fill a tenure-track assistant 
professor position in the history of science, beginning Fall 2010. 
PLS is a Great Books department with 150 undergraduate majors, 
founded in 1950, with its own tenure-line faculty trained in various 
disciplines and committed to an integrated program of undergraduate 
studies. We are looking for candidates eager to pursue their 
teaching and research in the context of an interdisciplinary 
department offering a curriculum based on primary texts. AOS: open, 
with a preference for the history of the physical or life sciences 
in any period from the seventeenth-century to the present. 
Undergraduate teaching responsibilities will include leading Great 
Books seminars, teaching courses in the Program\’s natural science 
sequence (“Fundamental Concepts of Natural Science,” “Scientific 
Inquiry: Theories and Practices,” and “Science, Society, and the 
Human Person”),
and directing senior theses. The successful candidate will also 
teach in Notre Dame’s graduate program in the History and Philosophy 
of Science. Ph.D. required. Promise of strong publication program 
and superior teaching expected. Ability to contribute to Notre 
Dame’s Catholic mission will be considered an asset. Salary and 
research support more than competitive. Teaching load 2/2, plus
