Job Summary

 

Full time, starting from 3 October 2011 or as soon as practicable thereafter. Duration: 40 months.

The Museum of the History of Science, Technology and Medicine has been developed since 2007 by staff and students of the Centre for History and Philosophy of Science working to make use of historic objects and collections presently held across the campus. Several permanent exhibits are in place as well as a dedicated website, including a collections catalogue. You would be expected to take the Museum project to the next stage, with the aim ultimately of helping to create a world-class institution, attractive to researchers, students and visitors alike.

Job Description

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• To be responsible for the conservation and appropriate preservation of University heritage in science, technology and medicine (STM)
• To develop appropriate uses of the University’s STM collections for public outreach activities to accomplish widening participation for undergraduate admissions.
• To support the use and display of relevant collections to support departments for University Open Days
• To support opportunities for students to work on University STM collections in order to develop both research and presentation skills and enhanced employability
• To secure funding from external bodies to support the enhanced display, access to and research upon STM collections
• To undertake research and publication, as appropriate for the School’s submission to the 2014 Research Excellence Framework
• To undertake administrative activities as appropriate to support the University’s strategic goals
