Issue 103 introduces the Great Exhibitions competition 2014, with a feature article from Jamie Stark and Katy Barrett of the BSHS Outreach and Education Committee (1-2), who discuss connections between academic and curatorial work, and ask what makes for a good show? Alison Boyle gives an introduction to the balancing act of curating an exhibition about current scientific research (6-7), and there are reviews of four exhibitions around the country, in Kent, Manchester, Oxford, and London, on topics from pieces of coral to particle colliders (8-11). Lorraine Mariner’s marvellous poem on the Whipple Museum’s Grand Orrery is reproduced, alongside an image of the object itself (3). Reports from the BSHS Postgraduate Conference in Leeds and the HSS Conference in Boston are also included (12-14). Aileen Fyfe is the Viewpoint interviewee (15).
